چکیده

This paper proposes an objective video quality-metrics method based on a reduced-reference model for measuring end-user video quality in video applications such as IPTV. It chooses a representative-luminance value for each original video frame and transmits that value, along with information regarding the positions of all pixels having that value, to end-user terminals. End-user PSNR is estimated on the basis of that transmitted information. Since the space domain frequency of the luminance correlates with quantization errors generated in the encoding process, quantization errors in medium frequency regions are close to an average quantization error for an entire frame. Therefore, representativeluminance values are chosen from among medium frequency blocks to achieve accurate estimation for average errors. Simulation results show average PSNR estimation error to be -0.12 dB and the standard deviation of estimation error to be 0.97. This indicates that accurate PSNR estimation can be achieved with the proposed method.

A Novel Image Structural Similarity Index Considering Image Content Detectability Using Maximally Stable Extremal Region Descriptor

The image content detectability and image structure preservation are closely related concepts with undeniable role in image quality assessment. However, the most attention of image quality studies has been paid to image structure evaluation, few of them focused on image content detectability. Examining the image structure was firstly introduced and assessed in Structural SIMilarity (SSIM) measu...

A Denoising Filter Design based on No-Reference Image Content Metric

DIGITAL images are subject to a wide variety of distortions during acquisition, processing, compression, storage, transmission and reproduction. Any of these may result in degradation of their visual quality. Hence, there has been an increasing need to develop quality measurement techniques that can predict perceived image/video quality automatically. These methods are useful in various image/v...

Reduced-Reference Image Quality Assessment based on saliency region extraction

In this paper, a novel saliency theory based RR-IQA metric is introduced. As the human visual system is sensitive to the salient region, evaluating the image quality based on the salient region could increase the accuracy of the algorithm. In order to extract the salient regions, we use blob decomposition (BD) tool as a texture component descriptor. A new method for blob decomposition is propos...
